Compliance with NIH Regulations Over Transgenic Animal Purchase or Generation

Tue, 13th May, 2008

Since The Ohio State University receives funding from the National Institutes of Health, the OSU research community must comply with The NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules. In order to comply with these NIH Guidelines, the purchase or generation of transgenic animals, including rodents, requires registration or protocol submission to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). To help identify studies using transgenic animals and assist in determining the appropriate IBC form, the IACUC Animal Use Protocol (AUP) has been updated (see “Use of Transgenic Animals” section 12c).

The IBC has also updated several forms, including the Application for Rodent Gene Transfer.

The IACUC and IBC kindly request investigators to please use the most recent version of the form posted on our respective web sites. View current IACUC and IBC forms.

For assistance regarding the IACUC review process, please contact the IACUC Office at, 292-4494, or 292-0409. Assistance regarding the IBC review process is available by contacting Jennifer Spohn, IBC Coordinator at or 247-1562.
