How to Transfer Animals

Animal Transfer Guidelines (apply to all animal transfers)

  • Complete transfer form three business days prior to transport (Saturday, Sunday and holidays are not business days) to allow ULAR to:
    • Receive approval and concurrence from both animal facilities
      • To verify available space
      • To verify health status of the animals
  • Animals may NOT be transferred without a completed transfer form (facility and veterinary approval required)
  • ULAR strongly encourages the PI staff to take advantage of the free ULAR transport services via a climate-controlled ULAR vehicle
    • Alternatively, if PI staff chooses to move their own animals, ULAR will notify research staff when animals may be moved
    • Animal transportation guidelines must be followed
    • In all transfer situations, animals must be removed from existing room census and added to new room census
      • Use the letter “T” for transfer
      • Please note: Use the letter “U” when animals taken to the lab will not return to the facility and do not require a transfer form

Animals leaving the BRT barrier facility CANNOT return
