Rates & Fees
ULAR is required to recover the costs associated with the care of laboratory animals through per diem rates. Invoices are processed monthly and charged interdepartmentally to the Principal Investigator’s (PI) Research Foundation Project or Department Chartfield as located on the animal cage card and room census sheet. Per Diem (animal housing costs)
About 15% of the animal care costs are subsidized by the Office of Research (OR). Per diem rates are based on the cost analysis and recovery procedures delineated in the NIH document Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Resource Facilities. Mouse rates are per cage while all other species are per animal. For further questions please contact ularinfo@osu.edu.
Grants
For grant purposes please plan on a 4% increase in per deim rates annually.
Surgery Fees
Extensive, state of the art surgical facilities are available in Wiseman Hall. Charges are based on the room and equipment usage, as well as support requested. Please contact ulartech@osu.edu for specific questions.
Technical Support
ULAR staff are available to assist researchers with animal studies by providing technical support on an as needed basis. Standard ULAR hours are M-F from 7am to 4pm.
Charges:
- Supplies (when applicable) will be charged at cost + overhead
- Technician fees will be charged out at $ 34.00/hr rounded to the nearest 15 minute increment. For weekend and holiday treatments Technician Fees will be charged out at $50.00/hr rounded to the nearest 15 minute increment. In addition, a maximum of 40 minutes (20 minutes each way) drive time may be added to the fee.
Requests should be received at least 5 business days in advance to ensure staff and/or needed supplies are available. The PI is expected to provide all needed supplies unless specifically requested. If you are unsure what will be needed we are happy to provide that information based on the techniques performed.
