Veterinary Animal Emergencies
The NEW Vital-Med system can be used to submit clinical case concerns electronically using the following link go.osu.edu/vital-med.
For assistance with animals needing immediate veterinary care and/or euthanasia, including but not limited to animals nearing early removal criteria as described in the animal care and use protocol, please call the ULAR veterinarian or laboratory animal health technician responsible for the animal facility where your animals are housed. Contact information is available at the vivarium.
Contact information is posted in the vivarium and online and ULAR staff is onsite 7 days a week.
Reporting Animal Concerns
The Ohio State University is strongly committed to the humane care and use of animals. All animals owned or involved in research, testing, or teaching at Ohio State will receive proper care and will be used humanely in accordance with the Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Animal Welfare Act, and the university’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) procedures and guidelines.
Any person who witnesses or suspects abuse of animals at Ohio State is encouraged to report their concerns.
Reporting Physical Plant Problems
Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) supports Ohio State’s academic facility needs while providing responsible stewardship for the long-term preservation of the university’s physical assets. Contact FOD if your animal research facility is experiencing:
- Power outages
- Temperature fluctuations
- Chemical spills
Reporting Public Safety Emergencies
The Department of Public Safety contributes to the welfare of the university community and surrounding campus area by providing law enforcement, security services, emergency management planning, and other public safety services.
